Do I really need a satellite phone?

Not necessarily. A satellite phone is a great solution for travelers in exotic locations and in some cases it is the only option.

But for many, actually for most ... a cell phone rental will suffice. We have extensive cellular coverage throughout the planet and when cost is a concern, a cell phone is usually the cheapest and most practical solution. It just makes more sense.
